Scherenschnitte is the art of painted paper cutwork. Each scherenschnitte begins with a drawing.  The artist then carefully cuts around each detail in the drawing. The piece is then painted, placed against a black background and framed.

In Claudia Hopf’s work she designs, draws and paints each piece.  Her son, Perry Hopf does the cutting for her with surgical scissors.  Perry also designs and creates the elaborately decorated frames to coordinate with each piece.
