Marilyn Corey passed away Oct. 29, 2007, after an unexpected illness. She was surrounded by her family.

Marilyn was born in Keene, N.H. on March 19, 1939, and studied to be a concert cellist at Hartt College of Music.

She moved to Kennebunk in April of 1998 with her husband, Walter V. Corey.

Besides her husband, Marilyn leaves a son, Donald Corey, of Guilford, Conn.; a daughter, Jessica Naylor of Ledyard, Conn.; a sister, Jeanne Meggison of Kennebunk; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Marilyn was an award-winning artist often suggesting the complexity and fragility of the natural world in her paintings. Her love of music and poetry combined with her environmental advocacy were most reflected in her signature seascapes.

She was represented by the Wright Gallery in Cape Porpoise and was a member of the Art Guild of the Kennebunks, Maine Women in the Arts and Rivertree. Marilyn was a past chorale and board member of Seaglass Chorale and designed numerous sets and programs for their presentations.

Marilyn was a member of church choirs and an Irish singing group. She also was an accomplished poet and often wrote poems to accompany her paintings.

Service notice: A celebration of her Marilyn Corey's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm.
